Welcome to the Savoy Company of Philadelphia
The Savoy Company of Philadelphia was formed in 1901 and remains the oldest amateur theater company in the world dedicated to Gilbert and Sullivan which include “blockbusters” like H.M.S. Pinafore (“I’m Called Little Buttercup”), The Mikado (“I’ve Got a Little List”) and The Pirates of Penzance (“I Am The Very Model Of A Modern Major-General”).
Savoy has long been known for its large chorus and backstage crew, and has performed on professional stages, employing professional orchestras, for 114 years and counting. The Company’s volunteer cast has included film star Nelson Eddy, Metropolitan Opera soprano Margaret Harshaw, Wagnerian bass-baritone James Pease and Broadway star Wilbur Evans. The essence of Savoy, however, is that it is a unique social club: an organization where fun-loving people come together and form life-long friendships (and many marriages)!
Lastly, The Savoy Company has always staged annual G&S performances to support local charitable organizations.
